Pylori is a human pathogen, a gram-negative bacterium that is transmitted from person to person through the household-contact route.
It resides in the antral region of the human stomach and can lead to chronic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer disease, gastric cancer, MALT-lymphoma (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue).
More than half of the world’s population is infected with this bacterium, the rate of infection is high especially in the countries of Southern, Eastern Europe and Asia.
According to the latest revision of the “Maastricht/Florence” guideline, H. Pylori-associated gastritis is considered an infectious disease, regardless of the absence of complaints and complications, and requires treatment in every case.
Today, several ways of diagnosing H. Pylori are offered: 1. Invasive: examination of material obtained from gastric biopsy.
• by rapid urease test within 24 hours
• histological examination
• microbiological examination: rash.
2. Non-invasive:
• urease Breathing test with C13 or C14 isotope
• determination of antigen in stool
• determination of anti-Helicobacter antibodies in blood
